Hyundai Ioniq 5
charging guide

The Ioniq 5 is one of the fastest-charging EVs on sale, but the plug depends on the model year — and that changes which adapter you need.

Charging at home

A 48-amp circuit delivers the car's full 10.9 kW and adds about 33 miles per hour. The 2022–2024 J1772 cars — and any 2025 car built in Korea — work with any standard J1772 wall unit; US-built 2025+ NACS cars need a NACS charger or a J1772-to-NACS adapter.

Model-year note: this guide covers both port generations. If your car has the newer NACS port, a J1772 home charger needs a J1772-to-NACS adapter; a native NACS charger is the cleaner choice.
Recommended circuit: 48 A at 240 V for the full 10.9 kW. A 32 A circuit is the practical minimum; anything above the car's onboard limit buys no speed.

How long does it take?

These estimates assume a 10–90% charge, 240 V AC and 90% efficiency. Cold weather, a cold battery or a shared circuit will slow things down.

CircuitPowerRange added10–90% time

40 A9.6 kW29 mi/hr7h 47m
48 A10.9 kW33 mi/hr6h 51m

Estimates use the car's 10.9 kW onboard charger. If your trim has a smaller unit, the 32 A row is the practical ceiling. Want your own numbers? Use the charging time calculator.

Can you use a Tesla Supercharger?

Hyundai has access to Tesla Superchargers, but 2022–2024 cars need Hyundai's NACS-to-CCS1 adapter. US-built 2025+ cars have a native NACS port; check your window sticker if your car was built elsewhere. Peak DC power is 235 kW on the 77.4 kWh pack and higher on the 84 kWh pack.

What this car is best for

Best for road-trippers who want 18-minute fast stops and a spacious, quiet cabin.

Watch out: US-built 2025+ cars switched to a native NACS port; some other builds may still be CCS1, so check the window sticker before buying an adapter.

Frequently asked questions

Can an Ioniq 5 use a Tesla Supercharger?+

Yes. Hyundai has Supercharger access, but 2022–2024 cars need the official NACS-to-CCS1 adapter. US-built 2025+ cars with the NACS port can plug in without one.

What home charger fits an Ioniq 5?+

Any UL-listed J1772 charger rated at 40 or 48 amps works with 2022–2024 cars and Korea-built 2025 cars. For US-built 2025+ NACS cars, choose a NACS charger or use a J1772-to-NACS adapter.
