Toyota bZ4X
charging guide

The bZ4X is Toyota's first mass-market EV. The 2026 refresh is a big step up: a native NACS port, a larger battery and 11 kW AC charging. Earlier cars are much slower on both AC and DC.

Charging at home

The 2026 refresh accepts 11 kW at 48 amps. The 2023–2025 cars were limited to 6.6 kW, which means a 32-amp charger was the practical maximum. Check the model year before buying a circuit.

Model-year note: this guide covers both port generations. If your car has the newer NACS port, a J1772 home charger needs a J1772-to-NACS adapter; a native NACS charger is the cleaner choice.
Recommended circuit: 48 A at 240 V for the full 11 kW. A 32 A circuit is the practical minimum; anything above the car's onboard limit buys no speed.

How long does it take?

These estimates assume a 10–90% charge, 240 V AC and 90% efficiency. Cold weather, a cold battery or a shared circuit will slow things down.

32 A7.68 kW24 mi/hr8h 16m
40 A9.6 kW30 mi/hr6h 37m
48 A11 kW35 mi/hr5h 46m

Estimates use the car's 11 kW onboard charger. If your trim has a smaller unit, the 32 A row is the practical ceiling. Want your own numbers? Use the charging time calculator.

Can you use a Tesla Supercharger?

2023–2025 cars use CCS1 and need Toyota's NACS-to-CCS1 adapter for Tesla stations. The 2026 model has a native NACS port. Peak DC power is about 150 kW on the newer pack.

What this car is best for

Best for loyal Toyota buyers who want a comfortable, low-drama electric crossover.

Watch out: The 2023–2025 bZ4X's 6.6 kW AC charger is a real limitation. Do not pay for a 48-amp circuit unless you have the 2026 refresh or a car with the upgraded onboard charger.

Frequently asked questions

Does the bZ4X have a NACS port?+

The 2026 refresh does. 2023–2025 US-market cars use J1772 for AC and CCS1 for DC, and need Toyota's NACS-to-CCS1 adapter for Tesla Superchargers.

How fast does the bZ4X charge at home?+

The 2026 car accepts about 11 kW at 48 amps. 2023–2025 cars max out at 6.6 kW, so a 32-amp charger is sufficient.
